Why Are My Emails Going to Promotions Instead of the Primary Inbox?
If you’ve noticed that your emails are landing in the Promotions tab instead of your recipients’ Primary inbox, you’re not alone—and you’re not doing anything wrong.
This is a common behavior across email providers like Gmail, Yahoo, and Outlook, which use advanced filtering systems to organize incoming messages.
Why This Happens
Email providers automatically sort emails based on structure and content—not just intent.
Even helpful, informational, or recognition-based emails may be categorized as Promotions if they:
Are sent to a group of recipients
Include images, buttons, or links
Follow a consistent format (like newsletters or updates)
In short: if an email looks structured, it may be filtered into Promotions.
Is This a Problem?
No—this is completely normal and expected behavior with modern email systems.
The good news is that it’s easy to fix and improve future delivery.
How to Fix It
The most effective solution is to have your recipients move one of your emails into their Primary inbox.
Once they do this, their email provider will typically recognize your emails as important and begin delivering future messages to the Primary tab.
What You Can Do
You can send the following message to your team or customers to guide them through the process:

Hi! I wanted to share a quick heads up so you don’t miss any important updates, recognition, or tips from me.
Some email providers (like Gmail) are now sorting emails into different tabs like Promotions—even when they’re not sales-related. That means my emails might be landing there instead of your main inbox.
The good news—it’s super easy to fix!
Here’s what to do:
Check your Promotions (or Spam) folder
Find one of my emails
Drag it into your Primary inbox
When prompted, click “Yes” to keep future emails there
You can also:
Add me to your contacts
Reply to one of my emails (even a quick “Got it!” works)
These quick steps help your email system recognize my messages as important so you don’t miss anything.
Additional Tips for Better Email Delivery
Encourage your recipients to:
Save your email address in their contacts
Engage with your emails (open, click, reply)
